100797 | Brendemoen, Bernt et al.(eds. - Language encountersStudies in language contactThe study of language contact across time and space has in recent years received considerable attention in the international research literature. This book is a contribution to this growing field of inquiry. At the Faculty of Arts at the University of Oslo "Language Encounters" has been a special research program since 1995 within the more general framework of "Communication and Communication Patterns". This research program has comprised scholars at the Faculty who are working on projects related to the field of language contact which trace linguistic interaction diachronically as well as synchronically and across a multitude of geographical areas. In conjunction with the program several symposia were arranged in which internationally acclaimed scholars also participated. The present volume is a collection of articles by the participants at these meetings. The three main areas of focus of the contributions are: a) migration and language, b) high variety versus low variety of languages, and c) language encounters from an historical perspective. Common to all of the articles is the emphasis on language use in context. The interaction between the languages or language varieties has been studied in relation to their historical, cultural, social, and/or political settings. | NOK 372,00NOK 372,00 Legg til / Add |

102449 | Mathiassen, Terje: Old PrussianDr. philos. Terje Mathiassen (1938–1999) was Lecturer of Russian at the University of Oslo from 1971 to 1985, and Professor of Slavic and Baltic Linguistics from 1985 until his death in 1999. During his lifetime Professor Mathiassen published a large number of influential books and articles, including his doctoral dissertation Studien zum slavischen und indoeuropäischen Langvokalismus (1970; published 1974), Russisk grammatikk (1990; second, revised edition 1996), A Short Grammar of Lithuanian (1996) and AShort Grammar of Latvian (1997). Throughout his career, Professor Mathiassen took a keen interest in the only attested West Baltic language, namely Old Prussian, which died out around 1700. It was never in the ordinary sense a literary language, but there survive three sixteenth-century catechisms translated from German, and two word lists, one of about 1400, the other of the sixteenth century. The present book is a collection of Professor Mathiassen’s works on Old Prussian. It contains his previously unpublished “Outline of Old Prussian”, which was close to completion at the time of his death, the likewise previously unpublished article “Die Form altpreußisch dessimton in Stai Dessimton Pallaipsai”, and a reprint of his article “Zur Verbreitung der Pluraliatantum im Altpreußischen” (1998). Included in the volume are also a memorial article on Professor Mathiassen’s life and work, and a bibliography of his writings. The editor, John Ole Askedal, is Professor of German Linguistics at the University of Oslo. 100585 | Wynn, Rolf- The Linguistics of Doctor-PatientThis volume of Tromsø Studies in Linguistics deals with theoretical and practical aspects of doctor-patient communication analysis. Two different and much used approaches to the analysis of doctor-patient communication are compared and contrasted, one social psychological (Bales’ Interaction Process Analysis/Byrne and Long’s method), the other sociolinguistic (Conversation Analysis). The discussion emphasises central themes in doctor-patient communication research, such as power relations and outcomebased research. In addition, various approaches to the collecting, coding and analysing of data are discussed. Rolf Wynn (born 1968) is now finishing medical school. He has previously (1993) obtained a cand. philol. degree in English (linguistics) and has now received a grant to do a PhD thesis within the field of doctor-patient communication analysis.
